COSA awarded a micro-grant to Caroline Sinders for their work on their project Feminist Data Set. The project seeks to investigate the processes that go into creating and training machine learning technology. Often data sets are collected and created by centralized and profit-seeking entities. Feminist Data Set seeks to break this pattern by participating in their own data creation, through workshops and forums, and as an act of protest. With the COSA micro-grant, Sinders created an essay that disseminates the findings of Feminist Data Set, which can be found on their website.
